Sono sicuro che vi stavate chiedendo: Come mai sono due giorni che non postano più niente? Strano vero?
Manie di protagonismo a parte, eccomi a spiegare come mai.
Qualche tempo fa, forse con un po' troppa fretta, avevamo annunciato il nostro sviluppo verso un sito graficamente più bello, più completo e con un indirizzo "vero".
Ora sembra che funzioni tutto correttamente e, a parte qualche miglioria tecnica, siamo realmente online con il nuovo sito, quindi da oggi potrete trovare tutto quello che scriviamo QUI.

Il Cicca e Peo hanno abbandonato la toscana per qualche giorno, per fare un piccolo trip in norditalia con le loro BMX.
La cosa che li ha colpiti più di tutte è stato il Butta-park, potete trovare qualche foto qui.

Eccoci a darvi qualche altra informazione riguardo l'evento organizzato per il 18 settembre (non ne sapete nulla? leggete qui).
Innanzitutto vorremmo ricordarvi il luogo, cioè l'Habitat Skatepark ad Arezzo.
Inoltre, vi ricordiamo, che se non siete tesserati, dovrete farlo perchè se no non potrete girare con noi. Per tesserarvi, vi basta pagare 10 euro ai ragazzi di Street Survival (che saranno presenti come sempre).

Che cos'è?
Semplice, si tratta di un gioco che vi proporremo durante la "festa".
Cosa serve per partecipare?
Bastano un casco (consigliato), 5 euro e tanto coraggio.
Come si "gioca"?

verso le 16:30, tutti i partecipanti saranno divisi a coppie, ed ognuna di esse si darà battaglia a turno sopra i cinque scalini che vedete nelle foto.

Il primo della coppia esegue un trick saltando giù dagli scalini, se lo chiude, il secondo lo deve imitare.
Se questo sbaglia, il primo ottiene una lettera, se invece lo riesce a chiudere rimangono pari, ma si invertiranno le parti.
Ottenute tutte e tre le lettere della parola MAD, il rider passerà al turno successivo. Vince chi riesce a batterli tutti!
Alla fine di questo piccolo gioco saranno assegnati dei premi ai rider più coraggiosi!

Square One, come già annunciato è tornata alla carica (vedi post)...eccovi una piccola intervista.

When did you originally start Square One and how long was it around for?
I started Square One in 1999, and it was around until the Spring of 2008.

Why did you decide to stop doing the clothing brand, and when was that?
I think the exact month was April of ‘08. I think we just took on too many projects at once, and none of them got the attention they deserved. At the time we had a bike shop, a screen printing business (Ink Division), and Square One. At times I think that the printing business and shop got a little more attention, because they offered more of an instant return. When you’re struggling to stay afloat and pay bills, that’s what you gotta go with. We just did what we had to in order to get by, and I think Square One ended up suffering as a result. It wasn’t on purpose or anything, that’s just kind of the way it went. So eventually it just got to be too much, and we threw in the towel on it. Todd, Bert, and Jason stayed there and kept Ink Division going, and they’re still doing print jobs for a lot of companies in the BMX industry, but that was the end of Square One, at least for the time being.

How long has it been off the market, and why did you decide to resurrect it?
It’s been gone for almost two and a half years now. Even when we shut it down, I always knew it would be back at some point in some capacity. It was always something I had kicking around in my head, and then a few months ago Mike Szczesny approached me. He asked if I ever thought about doing it again, and I said heck yeah! Let’s do it. It just didn’t seem right not doing it. In some way or another, good or bad, it was part of my life for ten years. I missed it. Plus, Mike and I have both gained a lot of business sense outside of BMX over the last few years, so it feels like we’re in a better position now to do things the right way and really make it work.

What does the next year or so look like for the brand and the team?
For now we just went ahead and had some designs made up and got them printed. We figured it best to just get it out there and get the ball rolling. We have a lot of bigger plans, but we didn’t want to wait to let it all hit. The plan is to kind of just roll through the rest of this year pretty loosely. We’re making plans though and 2011 is going to be our first official year back in full force. We also have a new team consisting of some of the original guys and a handful of new guys. There are still some of the original guys out there with commitments to other teams, but we’d like to try and do what we can to get back as many of those guys as we can.

Square One has some pretty notable videos in the past (Wide Awake Nightmare)… Any plans for a full-length video?
Yeah, looking back I think that our videos, or more specifically Wide Awake Nightmare, were really what made Square One what it was. I think that could be one of the mistakes we made toward the end a few years ago. It was a weird time for BMX and it was a huge debate I kept having with myself between Web content and full lengths. The conclusion I’ve come to is that the full length is still necessary…especially for companies like Square One that get their identity from their videos. The difference now is that you can’t look at a video as a profit-generating product anymore. Nowadays a full-length video is more comparable to a magazine ad than it is to a T-shirt or a hat. It’s an advertisement rather than a product, and that doesn’t necessarily make it obsolete, just a different category on the books. So after that long winded answer…no solid plans are finalized yet, but there will be a full-length video coming.

What will be new or different with your company this time around?
I think it’s important to learn from the mistakes of the past. This time around we plan to just stick with what made Square One so appealing in the first place. I had a period where I was getting too caught up in what other people wanted to see or buy. I’ve learned that we need to do our own thing and let the attitudes and personalities of the company and the team shine through. That’s what resonates with people. Not trying to keep up with the latest trends. That stuff is so transparent and it ends up being really lame.

What else should we know about Square One?
Ummm, I guess just that we’re back! We’re a company that is very strongly rooted in BMX. From a clothing standpoint, there aren’t many of those around anymore. We wanna come back and fill the void left by companies like us and Little Devil. That stuff was so badass back in the day and you don’t see many things like that anymore. There are a lot of bigger name clothing companies involved in the sport now, and that’s cool too. If they’re here for the long haul and they’re taking care of riders then that’s awesome. More power to them. I just think we can bring a brand and an image with a unique authenticity that some of those companies can’t offer, so that’s what we plan to do.

FRAME
I was in such a hurry to get my new prototype frame that I told Fit to send it raw with no paint or clear coat. I actually ended up liking the way it looked with some rust on it. I think it looks pretty tough [ha-ha]. I'm kind of over it now though, can't wait to get the limited edition gold.

DRIVE TRAIN
Lots going on here. Prototype Fit sprocket that I'm really hyped on, it's strong, light and it looks good. I used to have a lot of problems breaking cranks. I tried a few different brands with little luck so I was skeptical when the guys at Fit told me the new cranks were strong. They were right. No lie they are the strongest cranks I've ever ran. I got sick of plastic pedals pretty fast. I felt like my feet were slipping off a lot more often then they did before. I thought I'd give the JC PCs a try. So far so good.

STEM
Mike Aitken stem. This one is a prototype but they are out now. I love the top load stem.

FRONT HUB
G-Sport hub. I used to have to cut down my front axle and run a small nut to make sure it wouldn't get hung up on rails when doing derek dusters. I don't have to worry about that anymore with the female style hubs.

REAR HUB & PEGS
G-Sport Ratchet hub with a custom hub guard that Matt Beringer made for me. The hub is bomb proof and I like the basic cone shape when it comes to hub guards. I like my hub guard, peg and dropout to all sit flush. I'm also rocking a T-1 peg back there. I've been running them since the day they came out. A lot of people don't even know they still make them.

GRIPS & BRAKE LEVER
Duo Homan grip feels broken in straight out of the box. I can't give up the tech 77 lever. Old habits die hard. I had the same lever for years but this one is newer. I broke one recently and I think it might be the first time I ever broke a lever. I always use a couple wrenches to give it a custom bend as well. Dragon Fly upper gyro cables, this is my last one and they are hard to find sometimes. Let me know if you know where I can find some?

SEAT, GYRO & FORKS
Fit PCP padded seat. I finally stepped up to the pivotal game not to long ago. My seat worked its way down over the past couple years. It does feel good having it out of the way and makes barspins feel more like a trick. You don't see to many gyros out there these days but there is an exclusive club that I'm proud to be a part of. If you like brakes and you like barspins, then it's the only way to go. Fit Blade Lite forks, not much to say it's a good fork. I haven't messed up a pair yet.

TIRES & RIMS
Duo natural wall tire matches the rust pretty good. Not sure how the X's got on the side walls but I think it looks kind of cool. G-Sport rims, years of refining have found just the right balance between weight and strength, good stuff.

Non so se ne avete mai sentito parlare, ma si tratta di un documentario, girato da Joe Stakun, in cui si ripercorre l'intera vita della "Fat Bald Men" (per gli "amici" FBM) per poterne conoscere le origini.
Dura poco più di un'ora, ed è un video che nessun amante delle 20" si può perdere, anche perchè FBM ci da la possibilità di vederlo online per un periodo limitato.

Vi ricordate di questo brand?
Io sì, ed erano un po' di anni che non ne sentivo più parlare. Square One era un brand di vestiario che faceva prodotti di qualità e sponsorizzava molti riders a livello internazionale (tra questi anche Corey Martinez, tanto per citarne uno).

Stadi summer session

Venerdì scorso a Helsinki si è svolto un'evento di livello internazionale abbastanza grosso, molti i rider che si sono dati battaglia nella capitale finlandese mettendo in atto un contest veramente bello.
Purtroppo le presenze dei riders sono state penalizzate dal fatto che in concomitanza a questo evento si svolgesse a Portland la seconda tappa del Dew Tour.
Da segnalare le grandi prestazioni di Bruno Hoffman che si è portato a casa il gradino più alto del podio e Sergio Layos che nonostante una bellissima run non è riuscito a soffiare il secondo posto a un ottimo Ben Hennon.

Cominciamo con una notizia di interesse generale per un possibile futuro. In Germania è nata una nuova company produttrice di BMX che si chiama Radio (è nata dalle stesse persone che erano dietro a We The People), che per farsi subito un po' di pubblicità ha inserito nel proprio team un grosso nome della scena internazionale, cioè Morgan Wade.

Seconda notizia: Federal ha aggiunto al suo flow team un giovane rider pieno di energia e di puro street style, qui un piccolo edit di introduzione.

Bene, dopo aver rinnovato il park, di cui siamo stati inauguratori con le nostre BMX durante l'entusiasmante jam del 26 giugno, organizzata da Callemarconi e i ragazzi di Street Survival (per chi se l'è persa, eccovi il report), ecco che i giovani aretini decidono di diventare anche loro multimediali creando un blog dove potrete trovare news, aggiornamenti ed eventi che riguardano uno degli skatepark più belli d'Italia.

Come molti di voi sapranno, da quasi un mese è cominciato uno degli eventi internazionali più importanti, il Dew Tour. A oggi si sono svolte già due tappe, la prima a Chicago (conclusasi il 26 luglio) e la seconda a Portland chiusa ieri (15 agosto).
Per chi si fosse perso questi due eventi ecco un breve riassunto.

Sono due giorni che vi segnaliamo notizie su notizie di questo progetto americano, vi chiederete come mai ci impegnamo tanto ad aggiornarvi in continuo.
E' presto detto. Semplicemente secondo noi lo street è l'essenza delle 20", quindi The Trip ci coinvolge sentimentalmente e vogliamo che tutti sappiano il più possibile di quest'idea che viene da oltreoceano, da menti giovani e con tanta passione.
Dopo questa introduzione romantica e mielensa, vi lasciamo alla vera notizia, cioè un bel Q&A (domanda e risposta) con Miles Rogoish fatto da Vital.

Who is behind The Trip and what is it exactly?
The Trip was started by Ty Morrow and I to showcase a family of friends and the direction we would like to see BMX head in the future. The Trip is a state of mind, a lifestyle. It has always been, always will be, and is constant. We are all passionate about life and live it freely doing what we love. Life is the trip, ride it out.

Who are all of the riders/crew?
Miles Rogoish, Ty Morrow, Drew York, Tony Neyer, Rick Scott, Catfish, Dan Lacey, Lahsaan Kobza, Eric Holley, Tammy Jane, Steve Croteau, Seamus McKeon, Hoang Tran, Patrick King, Alex Vazquez, and Garrett Reynolds.

The introductory video was amazing, how much time did you put into it?
Ty and I editied the video in a rushed time period of a week in Greenville, NC. There was a ton to get done other then just the team promo. Huge thanks to Hoang for all the help on the site.

What's it like working with Ty? Is he on top of things?
Yeah! Ty is dope to be business partners with. Sometimes it's like Day and Night with him being an insomniac and me waking up at 9am. I think that helps our overall time of getting shit done.

What all products do you plan on making?
The Trip is going to be making all types of dope product. We are starting with a few shirts to brand the company's image, then going full force into our catalog for interbike. you'll see!

What's next for The Trip video-wise?
We have already started working on our full length DVD. The Team Promo hit hard but the crew was rushed to make the welcome edit. As for the next DVD, give us a year. Filming has already started and The Trip is good at finishing mostly anything.

...lo scorso week-end a Montagnana (PD) si è svolta la 4° edizione dell'Assalto alle Mura?
Beh, se questo evento mancava nella lista dei vostri impegni, vi siete persi una giornata di riding intensa. Il report e le foto le potete trovare su Callemarconi, visto che la family era presente a gasare la scena italiana come sempre!

Ty Morrow

Come molti sapranno Ty Morrow sta scalando le vette dei pro riders internazionali, accaparrandosi sponsor di alto livello tra cui Federal, Shadow, Vans, Deadline e Staff.
Da poco ha anche aggiunto un self-made sponsor The Trip (il sito sarà online da domani).
Dopo essere stato intervistato da Ride-bmx, ecco che l'e-zine tra le più importanti a livello internazionale pubblica un video in cui descrive il telaio del giovane Morrow.

C'è chi dice che Ty possa "hoppare" sopra le tue spalle per merito di questo telaio...sarà vero?

Alex ci ha ormai abituati ad avere sue news da oltreoceano, e ogni sua gita in quel del nuovo continente è sempre una novità che fa sbavare noi poveri italiani.
A questo giro ci ha riempiti di video, che molti sicuramente hanno già visto (qui il link), e foto in cui ci mostra come i signori di Woodward se la spassino tra skateboard enormi e wurstel-rail...cos'altro si inventeranno?

Dopo il videocontest proposto da Nike 6.0 a Barcellona (chi non se lo ricorda corra subito a vedersi i video) ecco che arriva il best trick contest, cioè il miglior trick presente nei 5 video fatti.
Vi chiederete come mai una news che sembrerebbe centrare poco con la nostra scena, beh è presto detto. Tra i migliori trick da votare c'è il gap (con annesso turndown) fatto da Stefan Lantschner sopra un paio di panchine...sapete chi votare!

Inoltre vi segnaliamo un nuovo edit made in Carhartt con la partecipazione del nostro connazionale. Yo Steve!

Eccoci in estate, ed ecco che cominciano ad esserci un'infinità di contest e jam in giro per il mondo.
Molte sono già passate, tra questi eventi alcuni di grande rilievo, come il contest a Barcellona o la recentissima tappa del Dew Tour a Chicago.
Ma vogliamo concentrarci sugli eventi che si svolgono sullo stivale, vicino o lontano che siano.
Qualche settimana fa si è svolta una jam a bergamo (foto), in Val Senales (video).
Infine, sabato scorso, si è svolta a Torino, la jam organizzata per il compleanno della 365 crew. pochi partecipanti (anche noi purtroppo eravamo via per le vacanze) ma sul loro sito potete trovare un bel report e qui qualche foto.
Complimenti a Simone "KID" Barraco, che come sempre si distingue per stile e grandezza nei trick.

Frontocean ha aggiunto al suo team il neodiciottenne toscano Gianni Ciccarello e Davide Altobelli. Purtroppo quest'ultimo ha subito anche un brutto infortunio recentemente (riprenditi presto Dadda)
